Karate Kids (ObG#44)

I took these pictures about a year and a half ago at my last karate tournament. I was able to help create a demo and coach the SWAT team (kids demo team) for this tournament. It was only the second time our school had a SWAT team perform so our team was quite a bit smaller than most others, but we did a pretty great job as you can see by the judges' scores! We performed to Bon Jovi's hit, "Have a nice day." We had high flying kicks and tricks, low powerful kicks, weapons forms, a mass attack, and board breaking. It was great fun to coach them, and I really miss them and the sport. I hope I can find the time to return to it soon.

From a kid's perspective

Today, one of the centers we had was to discuss what rules we should have on the playground and to write about why we need rules, and then to draw a picture of the playground. Well, I have quickly discovered how much I love this kid's art style. I love the dude doing the side kick to the other guy's butt, and the flood of tears coming from the poor sucker's eyeballs as he is being bullied, and of course, the big bully punching the little one in the face. I had to smile. Reminiscent of "Diary of a Wimpy Kid."

Friday night memories (ObG#39)
Nothing like the memories of the Friday night lights on a Fall night, wearing the letterman jacket, hanging out with friends, hot chocolate and football. A few years ago, while on a trip to So Cal, I stopped in at my alma mater to enjoy some memories.

simple things

Another one of my beautiful nephew. I have been able to spend a lot of time with him this week, which I have enjoyed as our carefree summer moments are coming to an end. I was blessed to see the joy that comes from simple things tonight: 2 short horsey rides, a free blue balloon, a lizard painted on his hand, sharing a snow cone, a huge inflatable cow, a hotdog with lots of ketchup and a lemonade, 2 free rubber bracelets from some nice firemen, a hug from Smokey the Bear, adopting a tiny goldfish from a nice man, meeting some funny animals, and walking around in the afternoon sunshine with Gama and aunties. He was in Bub Heaven and it made my day. Indeed, it was a beautiful way to end the summer vacation.
