A family resemblance!
Jude wanted to draw. I caught some great images and they make my heart smile because they totally remind me of when I was a kid. In fact, somewhere, I have a picture of me when I was about 6 years old coloring and my tongue is sticking out just like this. I have always done that, and still do. When I find that picture, I will have to share it.

School of fishies
A. Rogers Sept. 2011
After I took this picture, I played with the tuning a bit in Picasa. I darkened the shadows as much as I could and I adjusted the fill light slightly.

Here's another great shot from the dance festival last Thursday night. I love her smile, the bright flowers, and the wrinkled nose.

Bucky Bed
Grandfather, Great Spirit, once more behold me on earth and lean to hear my feeble voice.
~ Black Elk
My brother received a special wooden box when he was a young boy. My grandmother gave it to him after our grandfather, "Bucky," had died. He called it his "Bucky Box." He kept his special things in it.
Well, I call this my "Bucky Bed." I have always begged to be the lucky heir of this bed. It may not look very special, but to me it is. When I was little and we lived with Grandma, Mom used this bed. I remember snuggling with her as a child and thinking about how much I loved the four posts and the charming dark wood. I have been told that Bucky (born in 1930) received this bed from an uncle, or other relative, when he was approximately 5 years old. At that time, the bed was already quite old, perhaps 40-50 years old. So this bed has been around since the late 1800's (circa 1885).

I added a heavy film grain to add a somewhat aged look
(and to hide a couple of small orbs).

I absolutely treasure this bed, as well as the chest of drawers, and the hanging mirror that I received with it. Every night I fall asleep thinking of my precious grandfather and how special he is in our family, and how I have a timeless piece of him to carry with me and pass down to my child.

Senor Monito
"Peace begins with a smile."
~ Mother Teresa
A. Rogers Sept. 2011
Tonight was our school's annual school multicultural dance festival. I love the fact that we get to do the Mexican Hat Dance because so many of our students have traditional clothes and always look so spectacular. Here we have Senor Monito, at least that is what his mama, a friend of mine, calls him. I love it!

Just around the corner
A. Rogers Sept 2011
I can see the signs that my favorite time of year is nearly here. The weather has cooled down a bit, the leaves are starting to change, and harvest decorating has begun. I enjoyed this display on the street corner in front of a business building on River Road.

Healing water
"The art of healing comes from nature, not from the physician.
Therefore the physician must start from nature,
with an open mind."
~Philipus Aureolus Paracelsus
A. Rogers Sept. 2011
Today, after being sick and cooped up for 3 days, I decided I had to, absolutely HAD TO get out. But I just wasn't sure where to go. I started driving and this is where I found myself. Across town, near my sister's house, at the river. The river to myself, not a soul around, a sinking sun, pants rolled up, soaking my feet in the mud, and taking it all in. It helped, it really, really helped. Still fuzzy, but somewhat revived.

Hope Remains
I thought this would be a beautiful image to share for the day after September 11. It makes me happy. It makes me smile. It gives me hope. I love the happy colors of bright yellow and azure. It helps me to see to tomorrow and keep on moving.

"Holes in the floor of heaven . . .
. . . and her tears are pouring down." ~Steve Wariner
At the exact moment that Dixie State College was scheduled to conduct a flag retirement ceremony in remembrance of 9/11/01 torrential rain began pouring from the clouds. It led to small bits of hail. Thunder rumbled like a train piercing through the sky. I do not believe it was merely coincidental. I believe heaven is mourning with us. God Bless America.

Bear hugs
A. Rogers Sept. 2011
My nephew loves going to the new Black Bear Diner because he loves all the bears. He got some smiles out of people as they were leaving and he was embracing the bear in front of the entrance. Such a little tender heart.

One o'clock, two o'clock, three o'clock rock

Like a moth to the flame, this boy is drawn to anything that has buttons and/or plays songs. So naturally the first thing he noticed...

The most important thing in the world
The family. We were a strange little band of characters trudging through life sharing diseases and toothpaste, coveting one another's desserts, hiding shampoo, borrowing money, locking each other out of our rooms, inflicting pain and kissing to heal it in the same instant, loving, laughing, defending, and trying to figure out the common thread that bound us all together.

Futbol
I caught these two boys on candid camera recently playing soccer at recess. I love the smile on A's face (right). I can understand the joy he feels. I love this game.

Flash mob kid style
I told them to give Officer Powell a hug or a high five and they mobbed the poor guy.
