Cloud watching

I remember when I was a child and my brother, sisters, and I would lie on the cool green grass on a summer afternoon and look at the clouds. We would see who could find the same cloud based on what it looked like to each one of us. Today the clouds reminded me of childhood. What a special moment.

Forget-Me-Nots

I love when my nephew and niece lose little things when they come over. This golf ball was carried in Bub's sticky little hand last Sunday, and I just found it under my recliner this afternoon. Since they are in California for another week, I get to hold onto it and think about him while they are gone.

Purple passion

So these are the projects I have been working on this week for my classroom. I have never done a spray painting project like this before and I may have spent more on paint and sand paper than if I had just replaced the silly things, but it was fun to learn a new skill. I like the colors and they will look so cute in my redecorated "Dixie Sun" classroom with bright happy colors.

Raindrops on a spider web

"Always be on the lookout for wonder."
~E.B. White, author of Charlotte's Web

"Do you understand how there could be
any writing in a spider's web?"

Oh, no," said Dr Dorian. "I don't understand it.
But for that matter I don't understand how a
spider learned to spin a web in the first
place. When the words appeared, everyone said
they were a miracle. But nobody
pointed out that the web itself is a miracle."

End of an era

Ok, I know this is kind of a funny thing to put on a blog of this nature, and I have been thinking about whether I wanted to or not, but the truth is, no story has ever hit me in the way that this one has. In reading and rereading each book several times, I am struck each time by the number and power of the gospel parallels I find in each one. The most powerful, of course is how Satan will not support his followers, and eventually one day the righteous and evil will battle until only those on the Lord's side can possibly win.

Showtime! (ObG#36)

This is one of my favorite pictures ever! I love SeaWorld, but what I loved most about the show this day was the baby whale following the big whales as his mama performed. So precious.

Soccer and cupcakes (ObG#35)

I love this picture of the little girls I coached a few years ago.  I love the frosting on their noses. I love their dirty jerseys. And I absolutely LOVE their happy smiles, especially the toothless ones!

Say good bye to the beach. :( This is my final post about Zuma. Building a sand castle with my cousin. Isn't she a doll?

Perfectly green Malibu hills, clear azure sky, toasty sand, cool breeze: what better day could there be for learning to fly a kite?

Beware of the jellyfish!

Don't get to close, it will sting! Very cool to get up close and personal, though. Soon after, he was washed back out to sea.

Dolphin Delight!

"The happiness of the bee and the dolphin is to exist. For man it is to know that and to wonder at it."
~ Jacques Yves Cousteau

Anyone who knows me well will know how exciting this moment truly was for me! At Zuma Beach the other day (Malibu, California) we saw dolphins playing in the waves. It was the greatest moment of the day and something I will always remember! This is an amazing shot that shows how close they really were. Of course this is cropped, but they were close enough to catch this clearly.

Sweet Pico Boy

Pico is my aunt's and uncle's dog. He is so sweet. I love the lighting in this picture I took last night and the meek look his eyes.

Childhood Memories

"I thought if I could touch this place or feel it
This brokenness inside me might start healing
Out here it's like I'm someone else
I thought maybe I could find myself.

If I could come inside, I swear I'll leave,
I won't take nothing but a memory
From the house that built me."
~Miranda Lambert

A Taste of Tuscany

A. Rogers June 2011
Posted by Picasa

My friend, Mary, has the most beautiful backyard! My favorite part of it, though, is a little wooden covered porch with a child sized adirondack chair, with grapevines cascading through the beams and all around the porch! The wooden beams, the small, stucco guest house, the huge leaves all combine to create a feeling of being transported away from this desert to the Tuscan villages of Italy! I absolutely love it!
