Rock and roll and cheap sunglasses

"I don't care what anyone says about Ringo. I cut my rock and roll teeth listening to him."

There's nothing quite like belting it out at the top of your lungs with  some great music without the fear of someone recognizing you behind the protection of some rockin' shades!!!!

What it's all about

A. Rogers June 2011

These beautiful young ladies (Cailtlyn, L and Courtney, R) are the daughters of my dear friend, Nancy, who I taught on my mission, while in Prescott Valley, Arizona, exactly 11 years ago. My companion and I tracted into her in June 2000 and she was baptized in September. I was able to return to Mesa a year later after getting home and go see her and her family sealed for time and all eternity. What a wonderful blessing! Well I haven't seen these girls since they were little tots and it is great to see them growing up in body and in the gospel!

Red Dirt Road

"I was raised off Rural Route Three,
Out past where the black top ends.
We'd walk to Church on Sunday mornings,
Race barefoot back to Johnson's fence.
That's where I first saw Mary,
On that roadside pickin' blackberries.
That summer I turned a corner in my soul,
Down that red dirt road."
~ Brooks and Dunn

Shady spot

"Happiness is sharing a bowl of cherries and a book of poetry with a shade tree. He doesn't eat much and doesn't read much, but listens well and is a most gracious host."

walkin on sunshine

"It's been a long, cold, lonely winter. It feels like years since it's been here. Here comes the sun."

I finally found a frame that I like for my black belt certificate . . . only 14 mos after actually earning the dang thing! Now to find a respectable place to hang it.

Paradise

You might think I was in Hawaii with these beautiful tropical flowers and this palm tree, yet it is just across the street, here in the desert. A little piece of heaven right here in my front yard!

Life is a highway

The colors of summer

"I wonder what it would be like to live in a world where it was always June."

Ahhh, the quintessential summertime moment. Ice cream cones on a warm and breezy late afternoon. I took these pics on my sister's lawn this afternoon while the kids and I enjoyed some time with mommy AND daddy home, as well as good neighbor friends.
I love the edits on this and the tricks I am learning with Picasa. I increased the saturation so that Jude's blue eyes really stood out, then I used a focal black and white touch so that his pink cheeks and eyes were the focus, finally, I warmed it up a touch so that it had more of a sepia tone. I also added a border with shadows to the collage. Love it to death! In fact, I think it will have to be framed, since I need to do some picture updating at my house.

Nostalgia

There's nothing like finding a slice of history in the midst of today. This is why I love Main Street. I took this picture behind Judd's Store this late summer afternoon. I love the flowers against the old siding and old fashioned screen door. It reminds me of my great grandparents' home in downtown Los Angeles and all the holidays we would spend on their back lawn among the flowers and magnolia trees.

My heart smiled!

My heart truly smiled when this boy, who has worked so hard the past several months, heard his name called as Citizen of the Month on the last day of school. He looked at me with shock and question and shouted, "I can't believe I got picked!!!!" He was so proud as you can see. He really took it all in. I had to hold his certificate and pin for him so he could concentrate on the rest of the assembly. I would say that was the best pick of the year. I feel happy now. Truly happy!

In our school talent show, one boy in my class brought his "trained" turtle in to demonstrate so fancy footwork, which brought forth a lot of good belly laughs!

Strawberry Heaven!

My favorite part of summer time is the quality and variety of fresh fruit available. I love the melons, the berries, the peaches, the nectarines, the plums, the kiwi . . .
This morning for breakfast, I had a bowl of cottage cheese with bananas, strawberries, and peaches! Yummy!

A. Rogers June 2011

I wanted to take a picture of me holding one of these strawberries, just so you could get an idea how big they really are (about the size of the palm of my hand), but my camera wouldn't focus that close up, no matter how hard I tried. These are the best strawberries ever! <3

The more I learn....

... the more I realize how much I really don't know!

One of the greatest promises we have been given is that the only thing we can take with us to the next life is what we have learned in this life. So instead of focusing on what we have to leave behind, I am trying to focus on becoming a better, more well rounded, well educated, loving, caring person dedicated to passing it on to others. So bring on the Master's load and thesis!
